Creating Employment Through Waste Management
Women Development Association Zimbabwe (WoDAZ), a community organisation in Gwanda has embarked on a recycling project to reduce the environmental impacts caused by poor handling of waste and litter. The organisation’s campaign is informed by the failure of the Gwanda Municipality and the environmental agencies to collect and manage refuse.
Through the Waste Management Campaign, WoDAZ has seen the need for an increased role of cooperate actors and citizen’s inclusion in contributing to the environment and infrastructural development debate. The campaign is a bottom-up approach, and serves to create employment among women and youth, as they will be employed to pick up waste and manufacture recycled material. The management of waste will also go a long way in reducing climate change and promoting a safe and clean environment.
