Video: Zimbabwe's Bleeding Economy: The Survival of The Fittest
Despite the economic stress and the ballooning unemployment in the country young people and women have turned to entrepreneurship. Backyard industries have mushroomed in most high density suburbs, and women are seen crushing stones for survival in the dormitory town of Chitungwiza. This week we had a chat with some backyard entrepreneurs in Chitungwiza and Dzivarasekwa and their stories fascinating as they are tell a lot about the government’s failure to resuscitate the economy.
According to unofficial statistics Zimbabwe’s unemployment is way above 85%, most industries have since closed as the economy continue deteriorating. The few operational ones cannot absorb the graduates being produced every quarter by different universities in the country. The government should thrive to invest in young people’s potential through providing them with requisite skills, machinery and capital to expand their ventures.
